First Church Choral Scholars

The First Church Choral Scholar program was established in 2008 with the intention of providing current CSU students a “scholarship” to participate in the Sanctuary Choir at First Church. Students are selected by the Director of Music & Arts each year and should be enrolled in a singing ensemble at CSU as a prerequisite. They are encouraged to be active “vocal leaders” in their sections and well-prepared musically for rehearsals and Sunday services each week. First United Methodist Church, Fort Collins and the Sanctuary Choir are proud of this collaboration with the CSU Music Department and look forward to welcoming our choral scholars each year.

2024/25 Lillian Scott Foley Scholarship Recipient

Kerry Miller, soprano – Ph.D. Chemistry

In 1987, the family of Lillian Scott Foley generously donated $15,000 to the FUMC Foundation to establish a music scholarship in honor of their mother at First United Methodist Church in Fort Collins. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to a current CSU student, who participates in the Music Ministry at FUMC.

Faythe Payant, alto – B.S. Biomedical Sciences, Organ Performance Minor

The Beverly Jean Winsett Memorial Choral Scholarship is a new scholarship established in 2024 by Joe Winsett, in memory of his loving wife. Beverly was devoted member of FUMC and sang in the Sanctuary choir for 30+ years. The scholarship is awarded to a CSU student who is a musician and interested in supporting the children’s ministry, as well as singing in the Sanctuary Choir.
